As I was driving along recently, listening to the car radio, Paloma Faith came on singing
You’ve got to, make your own kind of music, Sing your own special song …..
And it got me thinking… how many of us make our own music and sing our own song?
So many of the people I work with, seem to try so very, very hard to sing along with someone else’s tune, often times, not even aware of their own music.
The power of the music is the power of Grace.
It is not something added to my life.
The music gives birth to what is already there.

We all have our own special music and if you sit still and listen, you might even hear it. Each one of us has our own unique tune and our own unique tone.
There are times when we lose our song, or loose touch with. It gets buried under our ‘stuff’, the noise, the distraction, the anxiety or stress, and then we can only hear other peoples song. It can happen so easily. We connect to the past or the future, reliving what has happened or imagining what might or mightn’t happen.
But you know, music only lives in the present. You can only make your music in the present moment, music for amazement and wonder; music for sadness and healing; music for when the road takes a sudden and unexpected turn and your choices are challenged; music to quench the thirst of your soul.
It’s such an extraordinary thing, music. It is how we speak to God finally; or how we don’t. Even if we’re ignoring God. It’s the language of the spirit. If you believe that we contain within our skin and bones a spirit that might last longer than your time breathing in and out… if there is a spirit, music is the thing that wakes it up. And it certainly woke up mine.
Bono
So today I invite you to pause, close your eyes, and listen for the music.
Keep your heart tuned in so that you can
Make your own kind of music and sing your own special song… even if nobody else sings along.
