Living Life in Balance

Living a life in balance is such an important topic that I’ve decided that we will revisit it again this week.

But, how do you know if your life is out of balance?

Do you have a “balance meter” to let you know when you have slipped out of balance?

As human beings, we have tremendous ability to adapt and acclimatise to all kinds of situations. While this often serves us well, it can be our downfall too. When we are slightly out of balance in life we can adapt and cope so it becomes the new normal. Then we can deal with a bit more imbalance and adapt again to make that our new normal. Eventually we will have adapted and learned to cope with quite a lot of imbalance and not we realise, this is not working for me.

How many people work 50, 60 or more hours in the week? Where is the time for friends, family, rest and play and other responsibilities in the week? According to a 2018 study by the Harvard Business Review CEOs work an average of 62.5 hours per week including an average of 4 hours per day at weekends and just less than 2.5 hours per day while on holidays.

To live is the rarest thing in the world.

Most people exist, that is all.

So how do you create your balance meter so that your mind, body and spirit can be in balance? Only then can you truly be at peace and live a life of harmony.

These are the six key areas of your life that need to be in balance.

  1. Body
  2. Mind
  3. Spirit
  4. Time
  5. People
  6. Money

Take a little time to review the balance of hours in your day or week that you spend in each of the six areas.

How does that look to you?

Where do you need to make different choices?

What do you need to increase or decrease so that, through balance and order and rhythm you can achieve harmony and real happiness?
